Microsoft Azure Fundamentals (AZ-900)
AZ-900 is Microsoft Azure Fundamentals. Preparation should cover current exam areas: cloud concepts, Azure architecture and services, and Azure management and governance — not isolated product names.
On SkillsNest you work through those ideas in context: public, private and hybrid cloud, consumption-based pricing, shared responsibility, regions and availability zones, resource groups, subscriptions and management groups, plus compute, networking, storage, Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, Zero Trust, Azure Policy, cost management and monitoring tools such as Azure Monitor, Azure Advisor and Azure Service Health.
Published AZ-900 resources currently on the platform. Counts in the overview above come from live catalogue data.
Published lessons covering the exam topics, with free previews where marked.
Topic practice with explanations and feedback after you sign in.
Full-length timed papers. One designated mock may be free for registered users.
Review why an answer is right or wrong after you attempt a question.
Short module quizzes to confirm the lesson stuck before you move on.
See completion, scores and weaker topics once you are signed in.
Domain weights follow the Microsoft AZ-900 outline effective 20 July 2026. Microsoft does not publish an official question count.
Domain 1
25–30%
Explain what cloud computing is and why organisations use it. This includes public, private and hybrid models, the consumption-based model, shared responsibility, and the difference between IaaS, PaaS and SaaS, including when serverless fits.
Domain 2
35–40%
Describe how Azure is organised and what you can run on it. Typical topics include regions, availability zones, resource groups, subscriptions and management groups, then compute (virtual machines, containers, Azure Functions), networking, storage, Microsoft Entra ID, authentication, RBAC and Zero Trust.
Domain 3
30–35%
Describe how Azure is administered day to day: cost management and tags, Azure Policy and resource locks, the Azure portal, CLI and PowerShell, Azure Resource Manager, Azure Arc, and monitoring with Azure Advisor, Azure Service Health and Azure Monitor.

A practical AZ-900 study loop using the course, practice bank and mocks on this page.
Step 1
Start with cloud models, shared responsibility and IaaS, PaaS and SaaS so later Azure services have a clear place in the picture.
Step 2
Work through regions, resource organisation, compute, networking, storage and identity so you can describe what each service is for, not only name it.
Step 3
Use the AZ-900 practice bank to drill one domain at a time. Explanations matter more than a raw score at this stage.
Step 4
After you have enough answers recorded, use SkillsNest feedback to revisit Microsoft Entra ID, networking, cost management or whichever topic still slips.
Step 5
Sit a full AZ-900 mock under timed conditions. Registered users can start with the designated free mock exam, then return to the domains that scored lowest.
Straight answers about the exam and what SkillsNest publishes for AZ-900.
AZ-900 is Microsoft’s Azure Fundamentals exam. It measures foundational knowledge of cloud concepts and of Microsoft Azure, including core architecture, services, identity, security, management and governance.
Passing AZ-900 earns the Microsoft Certified: Azure Fundamentals certification. SkillsNest provides training and practice for that exam; Microsoft awards the certification.
AZ-900 is a common starting point for people who want to show they understand cloud and Azure at a foundational level. It suits IT, operations or development backgrounds, and people who are new to Azure but already work in technology.
You do not need to be an Azure administrator. Microsoft positions AZ-900 as foundational. Hands-on Azure work helps, but the exam is about describing concepts, services and tools rather than implementing production workloads.
The current outline (effective 20 July 2026) covers three areas: describe cloud concepts (25–30%); describe Azure architecture and services (35–40%); and describe Azure management and governance (30–35%). Typical topics include cloud models, shared responsibility, regions and availability zones, compute, networking, storage, Microsoft Entra ID, RBAC, Zero Trust, Azure Policy, cost management and monitoring. Microsoft does not publish an official question count.
Learn the cloud fundamentals, then Azure architecture and core services, practise by domain, review explanations for the topics you miss, and sit a timed mock before exam day. SkillsNest is designed around that loop rather than last-minute cramming.
There is no official Microsoft study duration. How long you need depends on your existing cloud and IT background. Treat any estimate as a personal plan, not a guarantee of passing.
